(ii) acts as a signpost for the subject matter of the paragraph;

(c) round off each paragraph with a concluding sentence.

4. Be logical in arranging the order of the paragraphs:

(a) have an introductory paragraph, which

(i) links the essay to the topic;

(ii) acts as a signpost for the subject matter of the essay;

(b) have paragraphs with similar subject matter close to each other;

(c) round off the essay with a suitable concluding paragraph.

5. Be precise: use words and sentence structures to say exactly what you want to say.

6. Be concise: don't use more words than necessary to say what you want to say.

7. Be simple: avoid complicated words and sentence structure wherever you can.

8. Be direct: come straight to the point; don't beat around the bush.

9. Clearly substantiate major assertions. Acknowledge sources of specific material and/or quotations.
